the oil pan is stuck on sometimes and might need a flathead screw driver to pry it off the gasket sometimes acts like a seal then sometimes it dont
I believe they are swithable if the ranger had the 2.9 V-6. (same mounts)

On your 1992 Ford Ranger , 4.0 liter : The starter should be on the drivers side of the engine , low down , where the transmission bolts to the rear of the engine
If you have clearance just remove bolts
The 1992 Mercedes-Benz 300 rear bumper is held in place with eight retaining bolts. You can remove the rear bumper by removing the retaining bolts.
under the car where the transmition bolts to the engine, it looks like a big cylinder jetting foward with another smaller cylinder on it, usually has 2 bolts holding it and 2 or 3 wires connected to it
If the bolts have been removed and the wires disconnected, try tapping the starter with a wooden block to loosen it, Sometimes the starter will stick in place due to sludge and grime.
You have to remove the center dash panel to get access to the bolts, screws.
take out the three bolts holding it on
you first pull off the pulley, take off the return and pressure line, then remove the 3 bolts and thats it! replace the two lines also, so you wonty have to worry about thos leaking.
Remove the 1992 Dodge Dakota inside door panel. The door handle mechanism will be visible. Remove the door handle linkage. Remove the door handle retaining bolts.
there are 2 rectangle pins that need to be pushed out with a punch/ screwdriver/ small pry bar
