remove the screws under the air conditioning vents and on the sides ther is also one hidden underneath the color strip for hot and cold so remove it carefully and the dash will come off exposing the four screws that mount the radio
You can remove the radio from your 1997 Geo Tracker by taking the radio retaining cover off. You also need to take out the radio retaining screws. The last step is to?æremove the wiring harness and the antenna cable from the back of the radio.
1 st you have to remove the ash tray

then you remove the moldden from around the unit
than you put car in last gear (with engine off)

The vehicle should be shut-off. First remove the bezel and trim around the head unit. Second, remove the two head unit retaining screws. The head unit can slide out. Once out enough the rear wiring harness attached can be disconnected.
Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal. Detach electical connections from alternator. Lossen alternator adjustment and pivot bolts and detach drivebelt. Remove bolts and separate alternator from engine. When you go to get new alternator take old one with you to match up,also make sure you have a pulley installed on new alternator or you may have to use the old one. Good idea to replace belt when reinstalling.
Detach negative battery cable from battery terminal. Disconnect cables from starter,label which cable went to which terminal on starter so you don't mess up. Loosen bolts on starter,can be a pain in the butt trust me cramped quarters. Take starter out.Then just reverse procedure for new starter.
open the ash tray. do not remove it. Get your fingers under the panel and pull on it. You can also use a flathead screwdriver to lever it. It may be hard to come off, as it is held down by clips, but once they are released, it should be easy.
Remove any connections to the panel (AC, hazard light, etc) and put it aside.
You will see four screws holding the radio. Unscrew them, and pull the radio out.
Disconnect the antenna and the stock wiring harness, and you're done!

Cant on a 91-96 the starter and solenoid are one piece. I assume its that way on all of them. Starter cost around 100 bucks at autozone with a lifetime warrenty
