Assuming you are referring to a stage or studio spot light and NOT a domestic spotlight then it should be undertaken by a qualified electrician for safety reasons and as its in a work/public place when operated it will be required by Law that its maintenance is conducted by a qualified person.

If a standard spotlight the power supply must be terminated by disconnecting the lamp from any supply. The lamp if not secured by safety chain to a gantry must be otherwise secured or preferably removed and placed on a workbench before any remedial work is undertaken.

The lead (flex) is normally mounted through the rear of the lamp housing and can be accessed through a panel which is screwed beneath the lamp holder (located inside the lamp housing) Remove the panel surrounding the flex - inside the lamp you will find that the flex is anchored to stop it from being torn from its lamp socket. release the anchor by unscrewing the clamps found inside the lamp housing - locate and unscrew each of the cable connectors - one for each of the cables feeding the lamp - (you will normally see a LIVE - Neutral and earth (UK fitting) - If you are replacing the cable then it MUST be of the same specification as the one removed - these would normally have heat guard braiding on them as spotlights create huge amounts of heat. Once connected they must be checked by a qualified electrician BEFORE being used again - this is a legal requirement
