A large (appr. 2 inch) plastic ring holds each bulb in place. There is little room to get your hands in there, and the plastic ring tends to get gummed up and difficult to turn.
If you can get a large set of groove-joint pliers in there, that will help. Turn about 1/4 turn (there should be arrows indicating direction). Pull out of the headlight housing and replace with new bulb. You may find it easier to just remove the battery or power steering reservoir first.
Take note: it is not the headlamp that turns, but rather the plastic ring that surrounds the bulb (which shows the open/close direction) that is supposed to turn, at which point the headlamp then pulls straight out.
The plastic ring has ridges along the outside, to help you grip it. I was able to get the blade of a flat-blade screwdriver on the ridges, then I gently tapped the screwdriver (with a hammer), until the ring started to turn. Headlamp bulb then pulls straight out.
