My husband just did ours, it was I think only 3 screws on alternator. Once you remove the screws, you have to rock the alternator left and right to remove (like a lever). It looked very simple.
Remove the alternator belt from your 2003 Ford Mustang alternator. Remove the wiring harness from the alternator. Remove the alternator retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new alternator.

Disconnect battery. Remove serpentine belt. Unbolt all nuts and/or bolts securing alternator. Unbolt wire and disconnect electric connector connected to alternator. Install new part in reverse order of removal.
Around $400 for a new install.
Remove the oil filter and you'll have plenty of room to drop the alternator out.
take the pos. cable of the battery... then remove the overflow take..(this will make removale and installation easier) then remove the three bolts holding alternator.. then pop clips off and pos. wire on alternator. then remove
on the 4.2 engine its behind the alternator, right by the thermostat housing, you have to remove the alternator to get better access.
If you don't actually know, I would highly suggest taking it to a shop.
