Pull and hold the trigger, then pull the bolt back and it should release.
Your rifle was made by Savage for Western Auto. It is a Savage Model 46. You can contact Savage for an owners manual. It is a very basic bolt action. Remove the screw on the underside of the forearm to take action out of stock. Push the 2 pins out that hold the trigger group in place, and you can remove the bolt. gunpartscorp was a schematic at their website, under savage 46.
Follow the instructions in the owner's manual. Contact Savage for one if you don't have one. i have a savage model 111e 30-06, on mine you hole the trigger in while sliding the bolt back, you can also try the pafoa.org webpage, those guys are very helpful.
Hold down the safety switch and gently pull the bolt out, and a 1/4 turn on bolt at point where it sticks. On the Savage 340's. With clip out and safety off pull back the bolt as if you are chambering a round till bolt is all the way back. Pull trigger back fully and slide bolt out while trigger still depressed. To reinstall hold trigger back fully and slide bolt back in same position it was removed.
take it off
Just pull the trigger as you pull bolt out.
