Usually located at the bottom of the emergency brake handle - may have to remove trim for access
Bad switch on the emergency brake handle.
I own a 2006 Mazda Tribute I. I am not a mechanic but I recently adjusted my E-brake, and this what I discovered... The E-brake adjustment nut is located under the E-brake leather cover (directly to the left of the E-brake lever). You have to remove the E-brake cover and tighthen the bolt to the proper adjustment.
Easiest would be to disconnect the wire at the emergency brake handle.
First make sure that the service brakes are adjusted properly Emergency brake adjustment should be either at the junction of the cables under vehicle or at the handle itself (may have to remove trim for access) Set handle at 3 clicks brake should hold at this point
Push the brake pedal to released.
Remove the rear tire and wheels. Remove the emergency brake shoe spring. The brake shoe will come off. Reverse the process to install the new brake shoe.
Remove the cover from around the brake handle by removing the two screw in the lower front and the two bolts inside the center console. Remove the top locking nut from the cable and then turn the other nut clockwise to adjust the brake.
There is no such thing as an "Emergency brake" in a vehicle. The PARKING BRAKE is the pedal to the far left against the edge of the driver's footwell. The handle above the pedal is the release.
Yes, it is all one piece. Remove the rubber bumpers under the lid, remove the screws and compartment liner; remove the 2 screws under the liner; remove the shifter bezel by pulling up; remove the 2 screws that hold the front of the console to the dash; pull up on the emergency brake handle as high as you can, then pull the console back and raise the rear of console and pull up to clear the emergency brake handle.
Behind your emergency brake release handle
The light should be controlled by a switch operated by the emergency brake handle. The switch could be out of adjustment or could be bad.
