unfortunately, this cannot be done without removing the dash. A new design integration of these sub-units (stereo, climate control,etc.) make these units part of the dash.
you CAN remove the factory radio in the 2008 silverado! First start by removing the plastic trim ring that surrounds the radio and climate controls. the whole piece pops off, use some caution as the 12v plugs and traction control wiring is just long enough to let the piece rest on the floor without disconnecting them. Next you will need to remove the six 8mm bolts four of which secure the radio to the dash and the other two hold in the climate controls. gently lift the climate controls up and then slide the out towards you and they should come easy. now just slide out the factory radio disconnect the wiring harness and antenna and your done!
