Although they are a natural and necessary part of our garden soil microsystems, Funguses can run amuk and are sometimes a systemic problem. Whether it's on the flowers or in the soil, one way is to discourage it is to change the pH (acidity or alkalinity) of the soil. Another way is to change the water retaining ability of the soil by making sure the soil is well drained and the plants are not being overwatered. Or you can use an antifungal spray, which will work on the leaves but may destroy other beneficial microorganisms that are sensitive to the spray.

Check out your best local plant nursery and ask if they have a Master Gardener on site or know of one in the community. They will have more complete answers that will help protect our environment, and it's almost always free of charge.

First, DON'T TOUCH IT! It makes you itchy. Second, you could either pluck it out using a weeder, gloves, or a lawn mower(lawn mower doesn't work that well, just takes of the top, not the roots, if it has any). Or contact your local gardener. Or try to use lime.

You could try some medicated baby powder at the base, I use a little medicated powder when i plant bulbs, you don't want a harsh medicated powder.

With a shovel. If you don't want to do the digging, ask some friends or neighbors. Ferns are a very expensive plant, and I'm sure you can find someone who would LOVE to help.
