The filter has nothing to do with the rust stains.

You can remove small rust stains from a plaster surface with a small amount of diluted muratic acid. There is a tool specifically for this task which will make it easier to get the acid to the stain. The tool can be found in some pool supply stores.

Can you use play sand for a pool filter?

No, it'll blow right back to the pool which will then make it hard to remove. Sand filters REQUIRE a #20 grid pool filter sand. There is also another product possible called zeolite for sand filters... it will filter finer than sand.

Why is MY pool filter blowing dirt into the pool when I vacuum it?

Broken back wash valve part in a sand filter. Replace valve assy. Torn or damaged grids in a D. E. filter. Remove, clean and replace in the latter. Broken latterals in a sand filter - remove and replace. Unfortunately with a sand filter you have to remove all the sand first. Be sure that when you replace the #20 silica sand - you cover the stand pipe in the center of the filter other wise you are going to get a lot of sand blosing back to the pool for a while.kk

Sand from filter in swimming pool?

If sand from the filter is ending up in the pool then the laterals are getting worn. These are at the bottom of the sand filter and should only allow water to pass. A: You have a bad lateral(s). You need to remove all of the sand from the filter in order to get to the laterals. Some laterals either unscrew or click or press into place. Once the lateral is repaired replace the sand with new sand using a #20 grade filter sand. k
