You'll need to warm the truck up so you can still touch the engine by hand. Then pull off the coils which come off by disconeecting the electrical wire and then removing the single screw that holds them down. Once all the coils are removed you'll want to blow out the eight spark plug chambers. A lot of dirt and debris will fill around the the spark plug. Soak each plug with penetrating oil...Ford recommends AeroKroil which is very good stuff. I used PB blaster which is good but not as good as AeroKroil. I'd soak for about10 minutes then loosen slowly 1/8-1/4 turn. Let soak for 10 minutes longer. Then slowly turn the spark plugs out. Don't be surprised if they break in half. Ford did not use ant-seize so they tend to seize to engine. People with less than 60K miles don't have too much problems compared to people over 60K. I changed mine at 88K. Original owner never changed them so I knew I had a problem. If they break don't be worried there is a tool that works well in removing the broken end. It's made by Lisle. I picked my tool up at amazon for $60 with free shipping local tool shop wanted $100. For replacement plugs champion makes a single body double platinum that is very good. Autolite also makes an HT1 & HT15 as replacement. You'll need Nickel anti-seize for coating of new plugs. Also some electrical silicon spray for the coils when you re-install them.

i know if you have the 5.4L V8 you will have coil packs. not spark plugs
Screwed in the heads.

On the Ford Triton engines a separate coil is used for each cylinder. The coils are mounted over the top of the spark plugs. To access the spark plugs, remove the screws that secure the coils to the top of the cylinder heads and gently pull up on the coil to remove it and the short 3-4 inch plug wire that attaches the coil to the plug. A special knuckle joint or flex extension will be required to remove some of the plugs located at the rear of the engine. There are 4 spark plugs on the drivers side of the truck, four on the passenger side of the truck.

on top of the spark plugs in the intake manifold.
The plugs are located on the inboard side of the cylinder head near the intake manifold, under or near the fuel injection rails. You do not have spark plug wires, but rather 8 separate ignition coils that sit on top of the spark plugs.
Their are two valve covers on each side the four spark plugs are mounted in the engine block just below each of the Valve covers
no special tools required except a plug wrench most socket sets have plug sized sockets in them
