Disconect neg on battery, remove outer primary, remove jackshaft( keep parts in order when removing) remove rear tire, a motorcycle lift works good, disconect positive to starter, remove 2 1/4 inch allen bolts from starter, pull starter and catch spacer(notice direction of spacer it only goes back the way it came out.) Go to rear of swing arm pull starter from rear by the rubber fender guard. Replace in order the way it came out. It can be a pain but it's the only way I could replace mine.
If it is like any I have worked on you take all the blts out from the starter motor side and what is holding you back is the gear that is located inside so you must take off your primary cover and you will see it and it is very simple to remove from there! Be prepared to buy new primary cover gasket for it as they really need to be replaced every time you take primary cover off, hope this helps and best of luck to you.--DC
4.6 L engine. Ford has the starter tucked nicely in there. It is best to have the car on a hoist. There are 3 bolts to come out, and the 3rd one is where you have to really bend your hand. On a hoist it will take about an hour to remove and replace. Just make sure the exhaust is cold.
Remove the battery cables. Remove the positive cable from the starter. Loosen all the bolts that hold the starter in place. Remove the starter from the car.

you need to remove the left primary case and remove the gear from the end of the starter shaft. then you can remove the mounting bolts and the starter will slide out.

The oil drain plug on a 2000 Electra glide is under the oil pan towards the front of the engine. Make sure that you remove this plug instead of the transmission drain.
