HI the tensioner is mounted with 2 bolts..you must be careful not to strip them..remove them, then the big spring..that holds the tensioner..it is under pressure so be careful..when putting spring back ON, you must pry it OVER the bottom tab on engine block...use crow bar or large flat screwdriver to do so..The right hand bolt is a PIVOt that slides..the left hand bolt fixes the tension on the tensioner..the tensioner slides up and down on the right hand tensioner bolt to adjust the tension on the timing belt..its hard to explain w/o a diagram..good luck
You don't. The timing belt should have a spring loaded tensioner which pulls on the belt to adjust tension.
first the spring puts tension on the belt, then you tighten the tensioner assembly and it hold there.

The timing in a Saturn is not adjustable. The ignition timing is computer controlled by the Ignition control module located underneith your coil packs. if there is an issue with engine valve timing, you must replace all timing components, ie... timing cam gears, crank gear, hydralic tentioner and guides.
its a belt and my dealer couldn't tell me when it needs to be changed, so off to another dealer who said its at 100,000miles but get the tension units changed.
