I am in the process of the same thing. What I have found out so far is. Remove the three plastic screw type plugs from the rear board, then remove the third break lite, next remove the two seat covers on each side of the fold down seats, (have not figured that out yet), next unbolt the two seat belts from the side, next there are several black clamps inside the trunk that hold in the rear carpeted panel that you will need to pry sightly loose for the panel to slide out and over the speakers. Now tell me how to remove the two side cousions? KJS3964@juno.com

Try to use Toyota speaker adapter plugs so you don't need to cut wires and mess the electric system up. You can get them from Ebay or Amazon.

Hi, I just finished replacing both front and back speakers in my 92 Corolla. This answer is right up to removing the rear brake light. The side cushions are held on by a piece of metal and are easily removed by lifting the cushion up and then towards you. You also do not need to remove the seat belts as long as you don't mind putting a little more muscle into taking the rear board out. I just bent the edges enough to get it past, there was no damaging the board involved. As far as the wiring goes, the speakers I took out used adapter plugs, but the ones I put in were from a Hyundai Accent (exact same speakers, different plug) and I just cut the wires a soldered the wires together. As long as you do it right (hook up the positive to the positive and the negative to the negative...very easy to tell, the negatives all have a black line on them!) it's impossible to mess the electrical system up by cutting the wires!

As far as the front goes, on the driver's side there are four screws you need to take out to get the panel off (panel under the steering wheel). On the top of the panel there are two screws for the panel you need to take off and two more that are for the upper panel, you'll understand when you take a look. The front speakers are inside plastic mounts, so you have to take the mount off with the three screws holding it, and then take the speaker out of the plastic mount. Again, the front speakers are hooked up with plugs, but soldering is as good a connection as you can make, just be sure to tape over the exposed wire to prevent shorting out or any other problems. On the passenger side you have to open the glove box to get to all the screws and I believe there are a total of 5 screws on that side. But from there it is the same as the driver's side. The front is easier than the back but it's way harder to find replacement speakers for the front because they're smaller and uncommon.
