This is the procedure for a 1985 Chevy S10 Blazer 4*4.
I assume you wish to replace the u-joints. The manual says it will slide past the transfer case to the rear. Not on my car. After removing the four bolts and retainers I had to loosen the tranny mount to the cross brace and jack the tranny about 1/4 an inch. Then I was able to get it back toward the rear but not completely out. Next I marked the position of the long shaft to the other half unscrewed the retainer cap an pulled the splined shafts apart. Now it comes out fine in two parts. I suspect each year is different but it worked for my 1985.
Another thing that is most definitely wrong in the manual is the removal of the caps from the yoke. They say you can force the factory injected nylon to shear by putting it in a press or vise. Nope, the amount of force required would damage the yoke. Simply heat them with a torch until the plastic softens and tap them out with a hammer. Note: This is for first time removal only. When you install the new one there will be a circlip that installs on the inside of all 4 caps per u-joint.
Hope this helps
bob
or you talking about the driveshaft u-joint?
remove the four bolts at the front and the rear
NO. You will have to remove the transmission bolts and move the transmission back alittle after you have removed the driveshaft, transmission lines, crossmember bolts, starter, flywheel dust cover, front driveshaft, torque converter bolts. NO OTHER WAY.
You could remove the transfer case, front driveshaft, front diff and front axleshafts. Then you'll most likely have to swap the transmission for a 2 wheel drive version and find a 2 wheel drive rear driveshaft. You would basically need a 2 wheel drive Blazer with all its running gear in good shape so you could swap all the parts over. If you're not emotionally attached to your current 4wd Blazer, I recommend just selling it and finding a fitting 2wd replacement rig.
You have to remove the driveshaft, and with an air impact remove the large nut, there's the seal.
very carefuly
It is bolted on to the rear of the transmission. The front driveshaft will lead you right to it. Also Follow the rear drive shaft toward the front it will also lead you to it
Jack up and support the right front of the vehicle. Remove the wheel/tire. Remove the brake caliper and hang the caliper with a piece of wire out of the way. Remove hub/rotor assembly. Remove backing plate and spindle. Slide out axle assembly. Replace u-joint as you would on a driveshaft. Assemble in reverse order.
Open both front doors and remove everything between the firewall and the front seat :(
luck
The front driveshaft does exactly the same as the rear one, drive the wheels.
no but there is no point to remove it, it will not help your gas mileage that is a myth
