Pull the head rest as far as you can upward. there will be a button on one or both of the plastic pieces covering the holes where the headrest enters the seat. push these buttons in and pull the headrest upwards till it comes completely out of the seat.
Right under the rods of the headrest there is two round plastic pieces the rods go through. About one inch below the plastic pieces on the front of the seat even with the rods is the release. Press in and have someone pull up the headrest. You can follow the rods down the seat until you fell two small bumps. The bumps are the release for each side.
take off the tray covering the bottom of the engine and its at the front
Unscrew it.
Perserverence paid off. 1. Raise Headrest 2. Unscrew 2 plastic retainer collars 3. Push down on cushion where guide post enter seat back and look for hairpin clips. (They are thin and difficult to see) Remove hairpin clips from each guide post and pull headrest up and out. A long thin needle nose pliers worked for me.
remove stud locks
Remove Front Grille. Remove Electrical Connectors. Remove Bolts (3 ea). Pull out Headlight Assembly.
Should be a bolt at each corner of the seat
Go to the fuse box at the driver's side and remove the radio fuse for 3 hours then replace.
Remove the positive cable from your 1997 Oldsmobile battery. Remove the starter cables from the front of the starter. Remove the starter retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new starter.
Remove the front door trim panel. Remove the front window trim. Unplug the power mirror. Remove the access hole cover. Finally, remove the nuts holding the mirror to the door frame.
You will need to remove the front engine cover, on your 1997 Pontiac Bonneville, in order to change the supercharger belt. Loosen the tensioner pulley to remove the belt.
