I just did this on my 93 and 91 to swap them over because the one set of springs was shot. It got kinda brutal though.. but in a backyard it might. Lift the front end of the car off the ground. both sides need to be off the ground to make it easier. Take the wheel off the side you want to remove. undo the 10mm head bolt that holds the brake line on. turn the line so it comes off the strut. Then undo the 18mm head bolt that goes through the knuckle and strut. next is the brutal part. take a fairly big hammer and hit down on the knuckle till you can pull the strut out at the bottom. if you can push down on the wheel studs with your foot at the same time it helps. Once it is out then you have to remove the two or 3 or 4 nuts at the top of the strut. there may be other components attached to the top under the hood. once it is free simply pull it out. Be very careful not to hit the brake rotor while swinging the hammer!!! Installation is the reverse. Make sure the 18mm bolt is good and tight. if you did hit the rotor clean up the spot with a file....

How do you change the rear shocks on a 1988 mercury topaz?

This is a strut suspension. You have to remove the complete strut. Then you will need a spring compressor to release the coil spring. From there the shock can be changed. It would be cheaper to take the car to someone and have it done as the tool's needed will cost you.

How hard is it to change 1986 Chevy cavalier front struts?

To change the front strut it is not hard at all. Simply remove the tire, remove the break, remove the bottom bolts from the strut. Then remove the top bolt from the strut. Usually takes about 20-40 minutes to remove. Replacing is very simple as well. However, the front strut replacement will require a front-end alignment to be completed.

How do you replace the trunk struts on a 1998 Mercury Mystique?

(Licenced Technician) -- 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis does not use struts. It uses coil springs with separate shocks for the front and rear - except for some of the upscale trim Grand Marquis models, which run computer-controlled air suspension in the rear. Why are you wanting the "struts" changed? Are you having handling problems? Does the car sit low on one side? I have owned a 1991 Crown Vic and a 1989 Grand Marquis; front shocks are not really difficult (for me) to change; front coil springs are much more difficult. These cars were known for sometimes breaking coil springs. Unless you have a good solid garage floor, a couple of floor jacks, a complete set of line-up bars, and access to air tools, I would not recommend doing this job yourself. Hope this helps.

How do you replace struts on 1993 mercury villager?

Compress the shock spring with a spring compressor. Remove the top strut bolt. Remove the bottom strut bolt. Reverse the process to install the new struts.

How do you replace the front struts on Hyundai Sonata 2000 model?

To replace the front struts on a 2000 model Hyundai Sonata, you will first need to remove the tires. There will be 3 nuts on top of the strut mount. You will need to remove the 2 bolts that connect from the strut to the knuckle. Then you will need to remove the ABS sending unit as well as the front brake hose. Once these components are removed, you can remove the strut. In order to remove the strut, you will need a special tool to compress the spring. Once the struts are removed, you can safely replace them with new struts.
