(Licenced Technician) -- 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis does not use struts. It uses coil springs with separate shocks for the front and rear - except for some of the upscale trim Grand Marquis models, which run computer-controlled air suspension in the rear. Why are you wanting the "struts" changed? Are you having handling problems? Does the car sit low on one side? I have owned a 1991 Crown Vic and a 1989 Grand Marquis; front shocks are not really difficult (for me) to change; front coil springs are much more difficult. These cars were known for sometimes breaking coil springs. Unless you have a good solid garage floor, a couple of floor jacks, a complete set of line-up bars, and access to air tools, I would not recommend doing this job yourself. Hope this helps.
Duck tape should do the trick
Weak trunk struts on a 2003 VW Jetta will not allow the lid to properly stay open. To replace the struts unbolt the mounts holding them to the car and replace them.
You will need a torx adapter (I don't remember the size). After that make sure that the trunk is supported by something. Because it's very heavy, and you do not want it to fall on your head. Then replace the struts one at time. Always change the struts in pairs.

To change the trunk struts on a 2008 Dodge Avenger, start by opening the trunk and supporting it with a prop to prevent it from closing unexpectedly. Use a flat-head screwdriver to pry off the retaining clips on both ends of the struts, then remove the old struts by pulling them off the ball joints. Attach the new struts by pushing them onto the ball joints and securing them with the retaining clips. Finally, test the trunk to ensure it opens and closes smoothly.
check under the truck, under the car behind the fuel tank, it's on the evap tank, take off the black cover under the trunk,
Remove the wing nuts from inside the trunk, the assembly will pop out.
Look inside the trunk. Have to remove the wing nuts.
my understanding was that struts typically are on the front of a vehicle while shocks are on the back. yes there should be a difference, far more weight in the front of a sable than the back, even with the trunk loaded. my guess is that they are very different parts.
Go to your local Pep Boys or similar Auto parts store, and purchase two new struts. You will have to find the exact struts for your car, as the struts are different if you have a spoiler or if you have a rear wiper, and from year to year. With the new struts in hand, as well as a flat head screwdriver or needle nosed pliers, open the trunk, have the new strut out and near the side you will work on first. There will be one metal clip on each strut holding it to the ball joint, pry this off with the screwdriver or the pliers. Support the trunk with one hand and then pull the old strut from the joints. The one remaining strut can not hold up the trunk, so you will have to continue to support it. Set the old strut aside, then grab the new one, don't mess with the clips on this one, simply press the ends onto the joints, they might take some force, but not too much. Repeat this process on the other side and you are done.
