Disconnect batt. Drain Raidiator coolant.Remove Dashboard. Unhook both heater hoses located on firewall in engine compartment. remove airbox nuts in engine compartment. remove retaining screw for core in cabin. remove core.
on my 1985 Lincoln town car i had to remove the dash and get back to the firewall and remove a panel on the firewall to get to it. good luck it is a pain.

the a/c has to be evacuated,evaporater case has to be removed to gain access to a few bolts.then you remove the dash from the car,to gain access to the heater plenum.this is probably a job for your local for lincoln/mercury dealership.
this is probably a 4 or 5 hour job for a professional.i would not recommend doing it yourself.most of the dashboard and glove box must be removed to access heater core.
