To remove the instrument cluster on a 97 Malibu, first remove the screw at the bottom right of the radio's molding. Then remove the molding and the screws under the steering wheel. Remove the entire molding surrounding the cluster and the four screws to remove the entire instrument cluster.
All Mercedes instrument clusters are simply wedged in place. Go to the Home Depot and buy two of those paint can openers, place one on each side of the instrument cluster with the hook side in and pull with a little force [not too much]. It will come out fairly easy. There are two cable connected to the back and you can pull the whole thing out.

The 1985 Oldsmobile Cutlass computer is located behind the passenger side dashboard. You will need to remove the glovebox in order to access the computer.
it pulls straight out. You can create a tool using a thin, flat piece of metal, folded back a half-inch from the tip. With the folded piece facing downward, slide the tool into the crack between the cluster and the dashboard pad. Wiggle and pull the cluster out.

To change the high beam indicator you have to take the instrument cluster out of the dash.
It's in the gauge cluster. Take the bezel off and remove your instrument cluster. Look on the bottom right and you will see a small IC board plugged in, about the size of a book of matches...maybe a bit bigger. That's it! It will slide out. Good luck!
It may be a button to push or a screw to take out of one place on the back of the instrument cluster and screw it into another place on the back of the instrument cluster. Izuzu was real big on doing that back in the day.
If your dash lights aren't coming on, but everything else does, then it's the Potentiometer. Take out the instrument cluster and remove the potentiometer. You can simply clean all of the contact points or replace it with a new part (see Performanceproducts.com for parts).
