How do you remove the lower ball joint on a 1990 GMC 1500 pickup I have tried drilling the rivet and punching it out but the rivet will not come out?

Well, I too am having the same problem. Decided to take the lower control arm to a machine shop and have the rivets pressed out. I drilled and chiseled off one end of the rivet, but as you found, they won't simply punch out. Just drilling/chiseling the heads was enough for me. I'm done. It's far simpler now to just remove the control arm. A shop will have them out in minutes with out damage to the arm from off any off center drilling. In the morning, I'm off to the shop with the part.

How do you replace ball joint 91 buick century?

Hi, first you remove the tire and then the caliper. The caliper
will have two hex head bolts holding it on. They are on the back of
the caliper. Loosen them, and then pry them the rest of the way
out. Once the caliper is off, you can then slide the rotor off.
This will give you easier access to the ball joint. Work on getting
the 3 rivets that are on the underneath of the joint off by either
drilling or grinding them off. Once these are off, you are ready to
remove the ball joint and install the new one. You will replace the
rivets with bolts supplied when you get your new joint.

Lower ball joints on a 1989 delta 88?

Raise and support the vehicle and place jackstands under the
cradle. Vehicle weight should not be placed on the control
arms.
Remove the wheel assembly.
Install drive axle boot protectors.
Remove the cotter key from the ball joint nut and, using a ball
joint removal tool, separate the ball joint from the steering
knuckle.
Drill out the ball joint retaining rivets. It may be necessary
to chisel the drilled out rivets out of the control arm, even after
drilling them "out."
Remove the stabilizer bar bushing to control arm bolt.
Pull the control arm downward and remove the ball joint from
the steering knuckle and control arm.
Reverse procedure to install. Torque the new ball joint
attaching nuts to 50 ft lbs . The ball joint stud nut should
be torqued to specifications, about 64 ft lbs.
