How do you remove the radio - heater control dash console - faceplate on a 1996-2005 Mercury Sable - Ford Taurus?

This is the section of dash that has the heater & radio controls in it, and removing it is same as process as removing a Ford radio.
Buy a pair of the Ford radio tools from Walmart, any auto parts store, Target, etc for about $4.
Insert one of the u-shaped tools into the 2 holes on each side of the face of the dash radio/heater control faceplate. Notice the small indentations on the ends - you'll *feel* when those hit the hidden retainer clips.
Push outwards on the tops of the tools - which is actually putting an inward push on the hidden retainer clips, releasing their hold on the faceplate.
And hopefully just like that, the plate is in your hands.

You can then remove the center console enough to find the black electronic control box. The original code is on the black box on the driver side of the console frame.

Press the open button on your MCS faceplate and insert the navi CD in the slot close the faceplate by pressing the open button or lift up slightly, then press Navi on the faceplate.
