To remove the tail light assembly on a 1987 to 1989 Chevy Celebrity:
On the inside of the trunk next to the quarter panel look for the nuts that hold the rear header to the body. Remove the middle nut, which will be in the center of the tail light assembly. the assembly will then pull outward. When the stud clears then pull to the outside of the car to release the tab from the back up light assembly. If you remove a nut but the tail light assembly did not budge then you probably removed the wrong nut.
I like to replace the original nut with a wing nut. That makes future removal easier.
