Need more information. Front struts? Rear struts?
Basics are that you compress the springs first then start in the engine compartment (for the front struts) at the strut mount assembly or pull back your trunk liner to expose the rear strut mounts. You're also going to need either a torq socket or an allen wrench (I've seen both) to release the center retaining stud and hold the strut shaft while you remove the outer nut.
You will need to compress the 2002 Pontiac Grand Am strut spring with a spring compressor. Remove the top and bottom strut retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new strut.
The strut spring with a spring compressor. Be very careful as the strut spring will be under several hundred pounds of pressure. Remove the top and bottom strut retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new strut.
You will need a set of spring compressors, and it's not too difficult. pull back the carpet in the trunk, and remove the rubber cups over the strut mounting bolts. The bolts will require an offset 11/16 or larger wrench and an Allen key to break loose. Once the top is loose, compress the spring, remove the two bolts at the wheel location, and the strut should drop out with the spring. This is a tedius job but not too difficult.
1. remove rear seat (bottom part of seat pops up and out, bolts hold in top part of seat) 2. chalk front wheels, jack up rear of car on both sides and place on jack stands 3. remove rear wheels 4. remove ABS clip and brake line clip 5. loosen top three bolts holding strut in place under seat (remove insulation flap to find) 6. loosen and remove two bottom bolts on the spindle 7. remove top three bolts holding the strut assembly in place and remove enitre strut assembly. 8. replace bad strut components (will need specialized tools to compress spring) 9. reinstall in reverse order.

In the 8th Generation Corolla, 1998 to 2002, it's a pain. You must remove the back seats, because that is where the bolts that hold the struts are accessed. Then jack up the car and remove rear wheels. You possibly can access the bolts on the struts without taking the wheels off, but it's easier with them off) Please support the car properly for safety Do not use the tire change jack. Unbolt the bottom of the strut, and remove brake line (not from the brakes just unclip it from the strut, it's attached) Go back inside and unbolt the three bolts from the strut and pull up and out from inside the car. Install new struts same way opposite. (note: They are really more of a shock absorber than a MacPherson strut, you will not need a strut compressor for installation)
take the bolts out of it
remove the 30 or so bolts from the pan.
