Open the trunk and remove the nuts holding the assembly in place. With nuts removed the tail light assembly will come out the back then you can remove the light socket to replace the bulb.
Remove the wiring harness from the tail light assembly in your 2005 Mercury. Remove the tail light assembly retaining bolts. The tail light assembly will come out.

Twist the appropriate socket to remove it from the tail light assembly, then unplug the lamp and replace it. Reverse the steps to reinstall the tail light assembly.
Open the trunk; Remove the trunk liner; Remove the bulbs/wiring; locate the bolts securing the tail light assembly to the body; Remove the nuts; lift the assembly away. Cheers
Look in the trunk, there is a cover over the light assembly - open and you will have access to change the light.
For the Buick Skylark: You would go in through the trunk and remove the attaching hardware for the tail light assembly. After the tail light assembly is off, replace the bulb, and put the assembly back on. For the Volvo: you will either need to remove the outer casing to access the bulb OR go through the trunk and access the bulb through the package tray.
Open trunk and remove panel at rear, remove butterfly bolt and tail light assembly should pop out for accessibility to bulbs
Open the trunk, behind the tail light you will see a thumb screw, remove this then pull the trunk liner out there will be 2 more behind the liner remove these and pull the tail light straight back.
You will need to remove the tail light covers in the cargo compartment. Remove the wiring harness. Remove the tail light assembly retaining bolts.
You can access the Nissan taillights from the cargo compartment. Remove the tail light assembly cover. Remove the tail light wiring harness. Remove the tail light assembly retaining bolts.
in the trunk there are 3 plastic wing nuts take them off and the light will come out.
open the trunk. move the trunk liner where the tail lights are. you'll see 2 plastic screws. unscrew them. there is a 3rd screw, you have to reach up to it, its towards the top corner of whatever side you're on. disconnect the wiring remove light assembly
Open your trunk. Remove the black pins in the felt liner and then you'll see the tail light assembly. You can access the bulbs without removing the assembly. Just get the felt liner out of the way.
When you open trunk there should be two screws attached to the tail light. Then remove trunk floor and spare tire cover, remove trim piece around trunk hook (should have pull out pins). Remove clips in carpet in front of tail light. Once everything is out pull back carpet, there will be two snaps that you will see, push them out and pull tail light(for the most part the tail light is pressure fitted.
The cover does not come off. The tail light is an assembly, that is removed as one piece. The fasteners are accessed from in the trunk.
Open trunk. Remove the trunk liner. Remove the nuts holding the tail light assemblies in place. Remove the light assembly. Twist the bulb socket 1/4 turn and pull out. Replace bulb. Reverse procedure tin install.
I believe you can get acess to the fasteners behind the carpet in the trunk.
Open the trunk, locate and remove the defective bulb from the socket assembly in the tail light assembly. Replace the bulb with a new one, and lock into socket. Close trunk.
Pop the trunk, pull back the trunk liner, remove the 5 plastic screws/wingnuts, and separate light assembly from the car, remove the bulbs and replace.
open the trunk, on the side by the opening you will see a round cover, pull that cover back, that will give you access to the screw that removes the tail light assembly. remove the tail light assembly, when you pull out the tail light assembly you will have access to all of the bulbs in the tail light. this is a 5 minute job, very easy.
From inside the trunk, pull away the felt trunk liner to expose the tail light assembly. Turn the socket COUNTER-CLOCKWISE to pop it out of the tail light assembly.
If you remove the panels from the interior of the trunk you should find the bolts that hold the taillamp assembly to the body of the car. Simply remove the nuts and this releases the lamp assembly.
