It's very simple actually. Take yourself a good flat head screwdriver, slide it between the actual moving vent and the stationary part and pop it sideways. Go to the other side and pop that out and they should come right out. I painted mine and that's what I did. They pop right back in too, but you have to be careful because they are side-sensitive, so don't put them in backwards!
