I have had the same problem occur on the same year Passat. Previously I had fixed this myself, but this morning it would not lock again.
This is my first fix, I will follow this up with what my new plan on attack will be.
First you must remove the internal felt covering that is on the inside of the trunk. This does take some force, but don't be afraid to pull hard, you will most likely not break any of the attachments on the felt cover. On the right hand side of the truck there is a handle right next to the license plate, it will take some finagling to get this to disconnect. Again, brute force dexterity and a flashlight are your best bet.
You will then need a metric wrench to remove the lock mechanism itself. Remember to support the lock once removed, it is connected to a power supply that released the lock when locked. If you look inside you will be able to see if the spring is broken. I then strung a rubber band around the small arm of the locking mechanism itself. You can fit this on the "arm" from the lock and as I recall then around one of the screws sticking out the back of the lock.
I have not been able to take apart my trunk yet, but I surmise that the rubber band broke. My next attempt will be to find a small "pony tail" holder to which I believe will be more sturdy than the rubber band.
My guess is that something strong and manufactured will last longer than a rubber band.
Good luck to you and me!!
A semi detached house has one side of the house that will be attached to another house. A detached house has no shared walls. Most semi detached houses have the garage wall as the shared wall so there is less noise heard from either house.

The shape of a rock that has just broken off a larger block of rock is either amorphous or jagged. It will eventually undergo weathering and become smooth.
Igneous rocks are formed when magma or lava cools and hardens. These rocks can either be weathered/broken down into smaller pieces to become sediment or they can be subjected to heat and pressure causing them to either melt or become metamorphic rocks. If the sediments become cemented together then the rock is a sedimentary rock.
