replace the shift cable
I need to repair the gear shift cable in side a 2000 toyota corolla. How do you get in side the gear shift box to repair the cable end?
Usually, the complete cable must be replaced.
I live in Forest Park, Ga, and my gear shift got stuck and would not move, had it checked out and it was the gear shift cable, the price at Hessessy Pontiac was $85.00 but i found it at Terrry Cullen Chevrolet for $66.00 and $30.00 to install...
purchase a replacement cable and install it. its not reccomended to repair a broken cable
You can remove the linkage from the shifter to the transmission and manually shift transmission.
Depending on the model they are usually located on the transmission. Just below the shift linkage and cable. Follow the shift cable to the transmission and you will find it. you will have to remove the shift cable and lever , then unbolt the switch and work it up off the shaft.
You can do this by loosening up the gears. If you are having difficulties, you can take it into a mechanic.
i need photo of how to repair cable
You should check the shift linkage on your Pontiac. You may also want to check your linkage cable because it may have frayed or snapped.
The shift cable usually doesn't break. The bushings on the shifter inside the cabin have been known to break, or the clips that hold the cable to the tranny fall off allowing the cable to come off the tranny. I would check these points first before replacing the cable.
go to a reputable repair facility unles you have indebth knowledge.
