Try jiggling the steering wheel as you turn the key. Once the key is turned there is nothing left that locks the steering wheel so if you still cannot turn the wheel the problem is probably in the steering gear. Any halfway decent mechanic can repair it.
the car is not in park the stering wheel maybe in a bind, shake the wheel and try again
This will happen if the 4 wheel drive is engaged.
turn key on pull lever under stering wheel until light flashes on dash speedo than pull wheel in or out.
Give this a try first. If the stering wheel lock device has engaged, turn the steering wheel hard to the right and then hard to the left as far as possible while turning the key.
Could be the Springs doing that. If it's a grinding noise, then it's the wheel bearings.
The car may just need new shox, or it is just getting old and needs to be serviced
most turn sig are on a ring that cerround the colun and have a ear on the top and bottom of ring that catches on the stering wheel that released it. ears maaybe gone on ring
Right side of the stering wheel. Insert the key, turn clockwise and release when engine goes brumm.. brumm..
Been there. Grab the stering wheel with your left hand and yank it sharply to the left. That should unlock it, so you can turn the key. Once you have to do this, it is likely you will have to do it occasionally.
Sometimes if stering wheel is in a turned position it can interfere- try yanking the wheel a little one way or the other while gently trying to turn key If the key won't turn it's either the steering wheel lock mechanism or a faulty keyswitch. If it's the steering wheel lock, try moving the wheel as you try to turn the key. broken switch or try turning the steering wheel hard left and right while trying the ignition..it may be jammed
