According to the international automotive technicians network, of which I am a member, you will need to remove the instrument cluster and replace it with a remanufactured unit. It will have to be reprogrammed by the Ford dealership. ---------------------------------------- This is the intermittent odometer problem, which is very common is 1999 - 2003 F-series pickups (F150, F250, F350), as well as the Expedition and Explorer for the same years. There is no need to spend $600 or more replacing your instrument cluster. You can easily repair this problem yourself in about an hour. There is a lot of information about the problem and a detailed repair manual at http://www.odometer-repair.com. Thanks for the update as it is greatly appreciated.

The intermittent odometer in model year 1999 - 2003 Ford Expeditions (also same model year Excursion, F150, F250, F350) is caused by cracks in solder joints on a circuit board that powers the odometer. You can fix the problem yourself in about an hour with the instructions available at http://www.odometer-repair.com .

If the ABS light is on, this means that there is a problem with the Anti-Lock Brake System. This is not a DIY repair. Take it to a dealer.

The speedometer and odometer are electrically operated. There is no mechanical connection to the drivetrain. If there is no power, they don't work.
