A CV boot is found on the axle of a vehicle. To replace the outer boot remove the axle bolt and pull the boot off. The inner boot requires removal of the whole axle.

I have just fitted both CV boots on a 1994 Peugeot 106. Though I only needed the outer one replacing I had to remove the inner CV joint to slip the boot over the outer CV bell end. As a result I had to replace inner boot and metal sleeve also. the outer CV joint is a non-serviceable and non-removable item on the escort and ZX2. If it is bad it will need replacement. to remove the boot and replace it there are two ways to do it. (1) cut the boot off and replace it with a speed boot (a boot split down the length which then gets glued together) (2) either cut the boot off or slide it off. This method will take more work than the speed boot. This will require removal of the complete half axle. You will first have to separate the inner joint and remove that boot as well. Once the joint is separated, the tripod bearing will have to be removed. Once all this is done the new boot for the outer CV joint can be installed. If you do this method, you should also install a new inner boot as well.

I am not sure what the question is but basically, most cars have have two to four cv joints, one or two on each side of the car. The outer cv joint is located near the tire or hub, the other, also known as "the inner, which also has a boot is located near or in the transmission........hope this helped

They make replacements that are split in half, but they aren't generally recommended. What's best (unfortunately) is to remove the shaft and replace it with a stock cv boot. If the cv boot has been open to the elements for a while, damage in the cv joint might have occured.

Don't bother, just replace the entire axle. Once the boot is damaged, the CV joint is contaminated and it will not last very long. It's just an exercise in futility to replace the boot, and the effort is almost as great as if you replaced the entire half-shaft axle.
