pop the hood. when you are standing in front of the motor you will see the fuel line coming out of the carb. follow that down to the passenger side of the motor. there you will see the fuel pump. you may need to remove the smog pump, to get access to the fuel pump bolts. just remember to replace the fuel filter as well. best to be safe then sorry. also helps you to remember that you have replaced it. in case you haven't done that yet.

If the car is fuel injected (not sure for 1991) then the fuel pump is in the gas tank.
Remove fuel tank for access
To replace the fuel pump, you have to drop the gas tank and the fuel pump is located right on the top of it. The fuel pump is not on top of the gas tank. It is a mechanical fuel pump and is bolted to the side of the engine block.

Your 89 olds is giving signs of a weak or faulty fuel pump. Think about changing fuel filter first,if no improvement replace fuel pump.
your fuel pump is located inside your fuel tank. the fuel tank is strapped to the undercarrigage under the rear of the car between the rear wheels. the pump is attached to the fuel level sending unit and is sumerged in fuel. causes for failure bad pump relay. clogged fuel filter make pump work harder and running you car on empty all the time pump needs to be sumerged in fuel to keep pump from overheating
you have to drop the gas tank,the pump is located above and inside it.
Disconnect the fuel lines from the old pump and install a new pump, reconnect the fuel lines. The pump is normally located on the passenger side, front side of the engine block.
