First remove the two 10mm bolts that hold down the cover for the starter. this is located under the carbs and above the engine. then remove the two long bolts that hold down the starter on the right hand side of the bike. I found the whole removal procedure easiest from the left side. with the battery disconnected press on the starter to slide to the pass. side. it is hard to get out!!! now weasel the starter lifting the rear side of the starter up and wigle back and forth until the starter comes out. disconnect the starter power wire and install the reverse order.
