Follow the upper radiator hose from the radiator to the engine. It's behind there.
These vehicles use the 4T60-E transmission.
A 96 Chevy Beretta Z26 has a 3100 V6 engine. The oil drain is located on the bottom of the oil pan, on a slight angle pointing down and towards the rear.
Lower intake manifold bolt 115 in/lb. Upper intake manifold bolt 18 ft/.

Professionally, it will cost around $2,000 to replace a broken shifter and clutch in a 96' Chevy Beretta. Just the replacement clutch and shifter will end up costing you around $800.00.
remove the 2 bolts that hold the thermostat housing to the intake manifold which the upper radiator hose attaches to the housing then just pull the thermostat out and replace.
Need to replace the thermostat with a 195 degree. That ought to do it.
If there is any doubt about it, just replace it, they are cheap enough.
