Replacing 1997 Dodge Caravan Oil Pan Gasket You are pretty lucky because Dodge Caravan is pretty friendly about their pan gaskets no matter which engine is installed. Just drain the oil, remove the bolts from the pan and tap the pan with a rubber mallet. MAKE SURE ALL THE BOLTS ARE OUT IF THE PAN DOES NOT FALL OFF RIGHT AWAY AFTER BEING TAPPED!!! Fel-Pro or Dodge is probably your best bet to get the gasket silicone type gaskets are a pain but do work if you don;t use too much and clog the oil pump screen effectively killing the engine. Dodge oil pan gasket are not very prone to leaks so make sure the leak is not coming down the engine from the valve cover or from either the front or rear crankshaft seal and running along the seam as this is 95 percent more common in Caravans than a leaking pan gasket.
