you can drop the tank but honestly, it is easier to un-bolt the bed from the frame with 8 bolts, remove the screws @ the fill neck, then pick up bed on driver's side and prop up with a jack stand...the fuel pump is right there for the taking...you will have to adjust the stand high enough to be able to access the pump...
sounds like a lot, but trust me...it's alot less than dropping the tank...
