The following are steps I used to replace the idle air control valve on my 2000 Honda Accord v6. It's fairly easy but is a tad messy as there's a coolant line that you'll have to disconnect and reconnect.

First, you'll need the parts.

1) idle air control valve

2) throttle body to manifold gasket (you might be able to reuse the existing gasket but a new gasket is around $2.00 anyway)

Steps to remove and replace the IAC valve.

1) Disconnect the rubber air intake tube from the throttle body. Disconnect the various rubber tubes to the throttle body at this time too.

2) Spread some newspaper or plastic to catch the coolant as you disconnect the coolant tube going to the IAC valve. The amount of coolant you'll lose is minimal... around 2 tblspoons or something.

3) Unbolt the 2 throttle body nuts on top and the 2 throttle body bolts on the bottom and remove the throttle body. You won't be able to remove the throttle body entirely unless you disconnect the accelerator linkage and the cruise control linkage but I recommend you do.

4) After you remove the throttle body, turn it upside down and use a Philips screwdriver and remove the IAC Valve.

5) Clean the IAC mount point, place the IAC gasket (it can only go one way) on and install the IAC and tighten down on the 2 IAC screws.

6) If you elect to replace the throttle body gasket, you'll probably have to use a scraper to scrape away the old gasket. It might be time consuming but it's worth it to know that you'll have a leakproof throttle body connection to your manifold afterwards.

7) Connect up the accelerator and cruise control linkage and install the throttle body back onto your intake manifold. Remove the newspaper/plastic you used to catch the coolant at this time too.

8) Reconnect the other air and coolant fittings in reverse order of removal.

9) Finally, reconnect your air intake tube.

10) Reset your check engine light if necessary and you're all set!
