The 1976 Chevrolet C 10 ignition switch cylinder instructions can be found at most Chevrolet dealerships. The instructions can also be obtained from most auto-parts stores.
A 1976 Chevy did not have a points ignition, but that has nothing to do with the correct timing. You will find that the engine runs best with about 8-12 degrees BTDC.
Remove the steering wheel then the lock plate then the turn signal switch. You will then see a screw close to the side of the lock cylinder. Remove this screw and pull the lock cylinder out. It takes a special tool to remove the lock plate and you can rent then at some parts stores although they aren't very costly.

The coil is attached to the top of the distributor cap.
28-32 degrees
Should be 28-32
on the top side of the steering column under the dash
4 degrees BTDC / Before top dead center.
