There is a small spot on the right hand side of the bottom of the keyfob (down where the Horn alarm button is) You can push the tip of a nail file or knife in that spot and gently pry the two sides apart. The battery is right there, change it and push it back together. It requires a small disc battery about the size of a quarter, 2032. I just had to replace mine.

I was informed by a BMW dealer there isn't a battery to replace and you have to order a new remote and then have it programmed by the dealer.
