That's one of the pickiest things to do. On some washers you can raise the whole top surface to do it, on others you have to take the whole casing off. Look carefully along the front seam, where lid sits on casing, you may see two clips. If you do slip a flat screwdriver just into the slit and try to wedge it open. If it doesn't work then you have the other kind, sorry.
