On this particular model, I was able to remove the wiper arm by doing the following:
At the base of the arm itself where the arm is attached to the spindle, there is a cover. Taking a flat screwdriver pop off the cover exposing a retaining nut. Remove the nut and with a slight twisting motion the arm will become loose and can be pulled off of the spindle. Taking the new arm, simply place the arm down on the spindle and tighten the retaining nut back into place and put the plastic cover back on.
On a side note, I found it easy on realigning the new arm by taking the blade off of the old one, and placing it on the new one. When I put the arm back on the window, the blade lined up with the spot where it was previously. By tightening the bolt back down, it pulled the arm back onto the spindle in place.
To replace a windshield wiper motor for a 1998 F150, first remove the bottom trim on the window. Then remove both wiper blade assemblies and all screws on the metal cowling. Remove the retaining clip from the wiper motor linkage and pull the controls rods off.
Take it to a Ford Dealer.
How do I replace the block heater in my 1998 F150 4.6L?
check fuses or relays
send it to a garage???????
the belt tensioner does it by itself.short answer no
If you'd like to replace a wiper motor on a Ford F-150 you need disconnect the negative battery cable, remove mounting bolts, and replace old wiper with new unit. When you've installed new unit connect electrical harness and wiper arm to motor.
If the windshield wipers are not working in a 1998 Ford F150, the cause could be a blown fuse. There could also be a problem with the vacuum hoses connected to the wiper motor or the wiper motor itself.
watch video on youtube.
Check fuses and relays
Remove the grill around the wipers, make sure to get all the screws, some are hard to find, but when you get all the screws the grill lifts off and exposes the wiper assembly. Remove wiper arms, nuts are under a cap at the base of the wiper arm. Unplug the electric assembly. Remove all mounting bolts from the wiper assembly and it will lift out. This works for a 2000 f150 so it is probably the same for 1998.
There is a C clip that holds them on.
