first you jack the car, stands, get a oil pan, i think its a 1/2" socket and ratchet.pull bolts out of rear cover and pry on the bottom of the cover with oil pan under it, you'll probly need a rag too.after fluid is drained turn gears until oyu see a small headed bolt, size is a 8mm i think, put emergancy break on,remove bolt.take off break ,then slowly turn gears until the large pin in the center slides out.then you push the axels in from the outer side, then go back under and with a mechanic magnet pull out the c-clips.then pull axels out.use the end of the axel to pry on the seal until it comes out.might as well change the bearings too since their right there.you'll need a GOOD slide hammer/bearing remover.can rent one at local parts store.bearings are not much either.use a 1 1/8 socket with hammer to install bearing, and use permatex ultra black gasket maker around the outer edge of the seal before installing.TAP it on with hammer.then slide axels back in all the way,put c-clips back in then pull axels out until the stop, then slide the large pin back and bolt it down.clean surface area on rear end,and on the cover and use the ultra black for pan gasket.on upper part of the rear end on driver side is the fill plug.good luck
Axle seals
It would be recommended to replace the rear axle bearings and axles when they are worn/bad. If the bearings and axles are okay, just replace the seals.
you will have to have the axle pulled at a shop.the bearing slides along the axle shaft and seats in the axle housing.
To replace the rear axle seals, lift and support the rear of vehicle, remove the tires, remove the drums, remove the nuts holding the bearing/seal retainer in place, install the drums backwards (that's right, backwards) and secure drums to axle flange with two or three lug nuts, using a large hammer, tap on the drum as to force axle/bearing assembly out from the axle tube, take the axle assemblies to a machine shop to have the old bearings and seals replaced then reinstall the assemblies back into the vehicle. Unfortunately the original bearings have to be destroyed in order to replace the seals.
