I just did this about a month ago. I found it best to take the radiator out of the car, it is much easier to access the bolts (4) of the alternator. You will need to get under the car and pull the lower shroud back to get to the bolt underneath. It took me approx. 3 hours.

i did have same problem on my 95 aurora i have replace ignition coils sparkplugs and wires that solve my problem

Oldsmobile did not build an Aurora in 2000. Is your car a first generation 1995 to 1999, or is it a second generation 2001 to 2003.
Inside the alternator
You have to remove the passenger side wheel, and inner fenders, then the drive axle and heat shield, then you can get at it. From underneath.....sorry.
