How do you replace the alternator on a 1996 Nissan Sentra?

Its kinda hard and takes some time.. dont knwo the specifics but i did it and you have to take off the belt that goes to the alt by losening the tensioner pulley i think its an 8 or 10 mm then disconnect the batter neg cable (black) and undo all wiring from alt. then remove hold down bolts and re-verse procedure to install, might be a good time to change alt belt too and make sure its tight but not too tight, about 1/4 inch play when pushing down on it

The Firestone dealer wanted $325.00, plus tax, but I told him my son said it was too much. (My son is a mechanic living in another state.) According to the manual of my 1996 Sentra XE, page 174, the order is 1-3-4-2. Should be the same for GXE. Hope that helps

NISSAN SENTRA'S AND OTHER NISSAN MODELS COME WITH A CHAIN. THEY ARE REPLACED WHEN THEY FAIL. TAKE NOTE:IF THEY FAIL.. HOPE YOU ARE AT IDLE WHEN IT DOES.. OTHERWISE IT MAY COST AN ENTIRE NEW CYLINDER HEAD.
