On the passengers side, look underneath the glove box and you will see a kick panel.
It is held in place by two Phillips screws, so remove those two screws.
Remove the panel, then slide the cabin filter out and replace it.
Where can I buy the filter, I know that's what you are thinking, check either your Volvo dealer or Amazon.com
On Amazon, search for TYC Cabin Air Filter for VOLVO 40 Series: S40 Old Style, V40 (2000-2004). Price is roughly $16
