How do you replace the dash light behind the speedometer in a 1998 Mercury Mountaineer?
the instrument cluster has to be removed to gain acces to the bulbs .the lower trim under the steering wheel has to be removed.theres 2 peices, one plastic one metal.then you remove the radio bezal,2 screws above the climate switches.then remove6 screws retaining the inst.cluster cover.4 screws retain the cluster, the shift indicator has to be removed from the cluster. disconnect 3 or 4 wire connectors.and pull cluster out.flip upside down and there should be 6 large black bulb sockets turn counter clock wise and remove.i would suggest replacing all 6 bulbs.
