Then remove the plastic covering the door lock. second, remove the window switch panel by lifting it using a flat edge, and disconnecy cables. third, lift the door panel from the bottom, up. The door panel should come off.

There is a small retaining clip behind the handle. Just take a small flat-tip screwdriver or equivilent and push the clip off the slot behind the handle. By using your finger to push against the door panel right next to the handle, you will be able to see behind the handle and see the clip. The clip resembles a "c" with the ends bent up. Once the clip is removed, just pull on the handle and it will slide off the shaft. When you install the handle, just put the clip into the slot on the handle and gently push the handle back on the shaft. When you hear it snap into place, it is now locked back into position.

How do you remove the door panel of a 2000 dodge neon?
There are 3 screws to remove. One is behind the door handle (the latch you pull to open the door from the inside), one is in the part of the door you pull to close the door, and the other is up near the side mirror (if looking at the interior of the door, it will be the upper right on the driver's door). These three screws are covered by removable tabs that are the same color as your interior. Once you remove the screws, you will need to go around the perimeter of the panel and pop it off (there are many plastic tabs). I use a flat head screwdriver to get underneathe it and start working my way around. (I've had to replace the driver's side lock twice and recently replaced the front 6" speakers). If you want to totally remove the panel, you will need to remove the door handle latches between the panel and the door. There are two metal "arms" with white plastic connectors on the ends. One arm goes to the door handle on the outside of the door and one goes to the handle on the inside of the door. This was rather difficult since it was hard to get your hands in there. Procedure for manual windows... ok...sit on the seat and hold the panel in your hands, support it with one foot. Re-attach the door lock linkage to the handle. Rest the top of the panel on the door while still supporting with your foot. Align the lockpin so it passes through the panel. The top of the panel has a notch that runs from one end of it to the other. This notch fits into the moulding on the door. There are two mouldings, interior and exterior. Lock the top of the panel onto the interior moulding. You will need to press hard. Once it is in place, press the panel back onto the door. Make sure all the pins on the backside of the panel are aligned with the holes so they lock in place correctly. Replace the screw behind the door handle and in the door grab. If you have manual windows, like me, this is the fun part. Replace the lock ring on the handle so the ends of the ring are not completely in place, just resting by it's tips barely in the slot that it goes in. Replace plastic washer. Install handle. You will need to push hard on the panel to get extra clearence. With a small flat screwdriver,Gently push on the top of the ring to snap the ring back in place.

remove plastic covers on the ends of the handle...under those there are 2 bolts...remove them...i think they are 10mm...then remove the cover behind the door latch(used to open door)...inside, beside the latch...there is another 10mm bolt. remove it. pry out the window control switch from the front. pull it out. unplug the switch from the wiring harness. grab the handle of the door, then pull upward.
