On my 1998 E320 the driver's door mirror leaked some magic fluid and left the mirror not able to automatically dim if someone was behind me with their bright lights on. The mirror was then dark and had a double image. The dealer wanted over $450 for a new one! I went to a local glass shop and had one made to my cardboard template for $20 and stuck it on with double stick foam tape a couple of years ago. I am thinking of doing the same to my right door mirror- I don't like the tinted and curved mirrors.

I carefully cut out a piece of cardboard the size I wanted and had a local glass shop cut a mirror. I attached it with double stick white cushy tape and caulking onto the existing mirror. Cost $20.
