How do you replace the headlight bulb located on a 1993 Ford Explorer?

It isn't easy. I have size 10 hands and was just able to do this work. On the passenger side, move the battery back as far as possible (taking it completely out isn't necessary but is very tempting), then find the socket hold-in assembly. This is a plastic cap, hand-tight, and must be screwed out, a slow process for me as I was only able to get fingers on it, not my entire hand. Be patient, rotate it little by little, and it will eventually turn free. Slide this back along the wiring. Next rotate the socket itself a quarter turn. This frees it from the housing and you are now able to remove it and replace the bulb. Place the socket back into the housing, tighten a quarter turn, then replace the hold-in assembly, again a very slow process. Driver side is the same process, but without the hinderance of the battery. 10 minutes should do the trick.

Look to the back of the headlight assembly. There will be a round sleeve where the wiring goes into the headlight. Twist this counterclockwise to turn the head light bulb assembly. Pull back on the assembly to remove it from the headlight casing. Replace with new headlight bulb.
