Key or ignition tumbler is worn. If you cannot remove the key, then you will have to remove the tumbler assembly and replace it. If you can get the key out, then try a key that is not used very often. If it works, have a duplicate made of that key and destroy the other key with the problems.
Remove the retaining ring from the top of your 1977 Chevrolet pickup truck ignition key tumbler. Slide the ignition key tumbler out. Remove the wiring harness from the end of the key tumbler.
I broke my key in the ignition and cant get it out. My only option I can see, is to replace to tumbler. How do I remove it?
With no key you will have to drill out the existing tumbler assembly from the switch in order to unscrew the ignition switch bezel.
The ignition switch is one unit and you replace the entire thing. Do not confuse the ignition switch with the key lock tumbler. They are two different things.
You have an open question as to what you are asking. Are you referring to the key and tumbler assembly or the actual ignition switch meaning the electrical part? If you mean the key and tumbler then you need to have a locksmith do it or a repair shop as the key is coded for your car. If you are referring to the switch then in that case you will need special tools to remove it.
The ignition switch. Where the key goes in is the key tumbler.
Yes, but if the key is changed or replacement key is cut it must be reprogrammed. The tumbler from Ford comes with "gates" to rekey the tumbler to the original key.
